Our 2 week Astrohphotography trip last September to the island country of Iceland was full of otherworldly experiences from start to finish. From Volcanic eruptions, to dazzling Auroral displays, endless waterfalls, and much more.

Tamen Dutta, Nihal S Amin and me were our 3 man team from India. After planning this Trip for over a year, we started our nearly 3,000km road trip around the country in our trusty Mitsubishi Eclipse cross. We spent 2 days in the capital city of Reykjavik and managed to catch the rare sight of an erupting volcano in Grindavik, before heading east and stopping at scenic waterfalls, beaches, cliffs, even the shooting locations of The secret life of Walter Mitty.

We even got caught in a thrilling dust storm while passing near the highlands area on day 7 (My 25th Birthday!) We transitioned towards the north of the island and Hvitserkur was the place where we witnessed the Northern lights properly for the first time after getting brief glimpses earlier in the trip. The next night at Reykholar was even more spectacular.

We also enjoyed Whale watching in the Arctic Ocean. The Trip was capped off by 2 nights by the side of the Majestic Kirkjufell Mountain and a trip around the Snæfellsjökull penninsula.

This windy, icy country feels like another planet than Earth in many ways, and we couldn't have imagined such a packed and successful trip on our first attempt, despite it being completely self planned by the three of us. We even enjoyed a day in Zurich, Switzerland on the way back to India.
